DISPOSABLE GLOVES

Wearing gloves doesn’t automatically create a hygienic kitchen and the FSA says that it isn’t even a legal health and safety requirement. The best way you can stop cross-contamination is to frequently wash your hands. Chefs wearing gloves tend to forget this.

THE SOLUTION

DON’T ORDER THEM

We need to wash our hands just as frequently whether we wear gloves or not. So why buy them? Save the expense.

FIRST AID

The FSA says that sores, cuts or infection must be covered by a “distinctly coloured waterproof lesion” - gloves are not mandatory.

Cut yourself in the middle of the service? Have some finger cots to hand. A few plasters do the job too.

buy reusable gloves

We have linked below some reusable, food-safe, and latex-free gloves we recommend, but there are plenty of other options available online, so take a look at the ones that work for you. These gloves are particularly handy for peeling hot potatoes or handling beetroot. They’re really durable and they’re easy to wash by dunking in hot soapy, rinsing, then hanging to dry. Buy a couple of different sizes for your kitchen team. Sadly there are not currently any food safe reusable gloves on the market that are compostable or recyclable.

CREAM

For Dermatitis issues, try the cream lined below. Unfortunately, there's no environmentally friendly packaged cream yet.
